Also, Mitchell was a Confederate Soldier. He was a Private in Company D, 61st Georgia Volunteer Infantry "The Dekalb Guards", Army of Northern Virginia. From Company D, 61st Georgia muster rolls:
Green, Mitchell J. - private September 9, 1861. Captured at
Spotsylvania, Va. May 12, 1864. Released at Elmira, N. Y. June 21,
1865. (Born in Ga.)
There is a Book called "A Solders story of his Regiment" by G. W. Nichols. Nichols was a solder in Company D, 61st Georgia and book is about his experience during the war. He mentions M.J. Green in it a couple of times...once quoting him. He makes mention that on the first winter march you could have tracked M.J. Green in the snow from the blood coming from his feet. If you are any relation at all to Mitchell, it would be well worth it to get this book.
