Son of Elmer Mickel and Wealthy Mary Jane Cartwright. Grandson of the famous Rev. Peter Cartwright, pioneer Methodist minister. Was a miner for a while in Silver Cliff, Colorado, and made his way to Kansas, where he met and married Sadie Alice Webb. They were married on a Thursday evening, 2 September 1892 at Camp Logan, Baxter Springs, Kansas. He was 37 yrs. and Sadie was 18 yrs. Charles was known as a man "full of patriotism." Their wedding was witnessed by all of the old Civil War veterans at Camp Logan. Charles and Sadie made their way to Elko County, Nevada, where they stayed until his death in 1925. There were two children born to the marriage: Harry Rex Mickel and Lucille Mickel.
