Civil War Veteran
Sgt. U.S. Army, Co. D, 2nd Bn, 15th U.S. Inf. 6/9/1862 - 6/9/1865
Received gunshot wound to his right shoulder in the Siege of Atlanta.
An unsubstantiated story told about him regards the money he used to purchase the farm just down the Deckards Road from Kaster's Corners. He supposedly won the money to buy the farm at a poker game in Pithole PA, an oil boom town, soon after the Civil War. He was winning big...excused himself to go to the outhouse. Left his coat hanging on a hook in the saloon to avoid arousing suspicion, but, naturally, took his money with him. He went out, hopped on his horse, and rode through the night back to Cochranton. He had made enough money in his poker game to purchase the farm with cash.
