Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He entered the Union Army at Coldwater, Michigan and served as a Sergeant in Company M, 5th Michigan Cavalry. On September 19, 1864, in the conflict at Winchester, Virginia, he captured the Confederate battle flag.
