Harold married Mary Margaret Kelly on Thanksgiving Thursday, 26 November 1936, in St. John's Catholic Church, Antigo, Wisconsin. They had five children: Patricia Anne, Thomas Edward, Julie Mary, Mary Elizabeth, and Philip Harold. Harold's death was due to colon cancer with metatases to the liver. His parish, Immaculate Conception Church (Chicago), eulogized him in the Parish Bulletin because of his positive attitude related to illness and death.
