James G. Blaine Jr. was the son of Secretary of State James G. Blaine and Harriet Stanwood Blaine. As a young man, he worked for the Federal Government in Washington. He was a reporter then copy editor for the New York Tribune. He was also employed in the Auditing Department of the Pennsylvania Railroad in Philadelphia. In the early 1920's he was engaged in the brokerage business. In 1923, he moved to California due to ill health. Mr. Blaine was married three times. His first marriage to Marie Nevins (an actress) in 1886 ended in divorce six years later. (Marie later married a noted Surgeon, Dr. William T. Bull) In 1901, he married Martha Hichborn of Washington D.C. They divorced in 1906. Both divorce cases were covered extensively in the press. At the time of his death he was survived by his third wife, (Helen) Beryl Whitney (Grayson -Wheeler) Blaine, a son James G. Blaine III and two sisters, Harriet Blaine Beale and Margaret Blaine Damrocsh.

Gravesite Details

Buried with members of the Joel Parker Whitney family. Mr. Whitney's Pyramid Tomb is located at the north end of Monument Park, 100 yards left of the 11th hole at the Whitney Oaks Country Club.
