Edith Alice was a daughter of Thomas George and Amelia Amy Handley of 26 Rose Street, Northfleet and the sister of Robina, Thomas, Charles, John, Elizabeth, William, Percy and Alice.

She was born on 13 September 1902 at 26 Rose Street, Northfleet, and baptised on 25 Sep 1902 at St George's Church, Gravesend.

She was educated first at the Roman Catholic Infants School, Station Street and enrolled at the Northfleet Boarding School on 28th September 1910. She left school because of ill-health on 26th February 1914 and was re-admitted on 12th May. She finally left school on 9th October 1916.

She married Joseph Mc Goverin on 14th March 1931 at st. Botolph's Church, Northfleet, and they lived in All Saints Road, Northfleet, until moving to 29 Rose Street, Northfleet, in about 1935. Rose Street was demolished as part of a rebuilding programme in 1976 and they sold their house to the council, they were rehoused in a flat in 6 Carters Road, Northfleet.

She had a son, Kenneth, 1932.

She died aged eighty-two at Joyce Green Hospital, Dartford, on 23rd November 1984 and was buried in Northfleet Cemetery.
