William Walter "Wendell" Kroshus was born in Mary Township, Norman County, MN 28 Dec 1923. He was the 5th of 9 children born to his parents, Martin A. Kroshus and Olga Marie Wiig Kroshus.

His siblings were: Herbert 17 May 1915-18 May 1915, LeRoy "Clifford" 27 May 1916-22 Nov 1981 (Alma S. Orseth Amundson 18 Jan 1924-8 Mar 1999), Kenneth Howard 7 Mar 1918-10 Nov 1998 (Della Mary Hitner 6 May 1932-19 Jan 2010), Doris Irene 21 Apr 1921-28 Dec 2005 (Stanley Portal Nichols 26 Feb 1911-22 May 1999), Glen Eugene 17 May 1926-13 May 2015 (Lola Maxine Bjerke 11 Dec 1931-24 Jun 2006), Vernon 30 Jan 1929-7 Feb 1929, Vern Robert "Ole" 23 Mar 1930-26 Apr 2012 (Evelyn G. Wendell was baptized at the Bethania Lutheran Church, rural Perley, 14 Feb 1924. Sponsors for Wendell were Gilbert and Manda Kroshus. He was confirmed 22 May 1938 at Bethania.

He attended local schools and attended Borup High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Marines 1 Jul 1947. He received his training at San Diego, CA.

Wendell was sent to San Francisco and then sent out to Guam, China, and then Guam again. About a month after returning to Guam, he suffered a stab wound while watching a fight at Yona Village on Guam on 12 Feb 1949. He died shortly after he was wounded.

His body was returned to Ada, MN and funeral services were held for him at the Bethania Lutheran Church, rural Perley. Pastor Jacob Lien officiated at the services.

The VFW and American Legion posts from Ada, MN honored him during the services.

Pallbearers were: LeRoy Dosland, Donald Kroshus, Robert Kroshus, James Hulebak, Roy Jacobson, and Allen Wiig. Honorary pallbearers were: Kenneth Frater, Howard Ellingson, Thormon Dosland, Lowell Stennes, Joe Kroshus and Allen Jacobson.
