David was born on 16 Feb. or May 1848. He served as a musician in Co. C, 28th Pennsylvania Infantry, during the Civil War. He married first to Lydia D. He married second to Mary W. Rice before 1880.

David R. Garrison had two additional children with Lydia Davis: Clarence Garrison; and my grandfather Elwood R. Garrison (2 Nov. 1872 - 14 Apr. 1958). He left both boys with his late wife Lydia's family to be raised and he moved to Colorado and later married his second wife.
He eventually returned to Philadelphia, where he raised his second family.
