U.S. Congressman. After graduating from Emory College, in 1853, he studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1856 and commenced to practice law in Newnan, Georgia. He was a member of the Georgia State constitutional conventions, (1867-68) solicitor general of the Tallapoosa Court Circuit, (1867-68) and judge of the superior court of the same circuit, (1868-71). In 1871, he was elected as a Republican to the Forty-second Congress, serving until 1873. After his term, he resumed the practice of law, was a delegate to the Republican National Convention Cincinnati in 1876 and was president of the Atlanta & West Point Railroad, from 1876, until his death at age 66.
