Singer. He was an American vocalist and was a Country Music Hall of Fame member. During the 1950s, Matthews was a member of the singing group The Jordanaires. The group's background harmonies were often heard on recordings by Elvis Presley, Patsy Cline, Ricky Nelson and countless other performers. Matthews received the Bronze Star while serving in the Korean War. In 2001, a year after his death, he and the first three other members of The Jordanaires were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
