Social Reformer. Chicago attorney and founder of Rotary International. He attended the University of Vermont but was expelled due to a secret society he discovered to belong, Princeton University until the death of his grandfather, and the University of Iowa where he earned a Bachelor of Laws. In 1896 he began his law practice in Chicago. On Feb 23, 1905, he gathered with three clients and started rotating between their offices weekly to exchange business leads and vocational information. This led to the name Rotary. As the Chicago Rotary Club and Harris as the third president, they also decided that they needed to provide service to the community. In 1907, they constructed public toilets in downtown Chicago. This made them the first known service club in the world. By 1910, the organization become Rotary International. He married Jean Thomson on 2 July 1910. They never had children. Paul Harris Plaza, a pedestrian park in downtown Racine, is a named for him.
