World War I Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Private in the 116th Battalion, Gordon Highlanders. During the Battle of Passchendaele, Belgium, July 31, 1917, Private Mclntosh's company position came under German machine-gun fire at close range. He rushed forward under heavy fire reaching the emplacement, threw a grenade into it, killing two of the enemy and wounding a third. His quick grasp of the situation saved many of his comrades and enabled the consolidation to proceed unhindered by machine-gun fire. For gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Victoria Cross Medal.
