US Congressman. He graduated from the law department of the University of Alabama, in 1885, was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Talladega, Alabama. He was city clerk of Talladega, (1885-86), a member of the board of aldermen in 1891 and a member of the Democratic Alabama State executive committee, (1894-99). In 1901, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-seventh, Fifty-eighth and Fifty-ninth Congresses, serving until 1907. Declining to be a candidate for re-nomination, he was a as member of the Birmingham Board of Education, (1915-19), was chairman of the State educational commission in 1920, was president of the Alabama Tuberculosis Commission, (1920-22) and a member of the Alabama State Harbor Commission, (1922-23). He also practiced law until his death at age 62.
