Indian Campaigns Congressional Medal of Honor recipient. Served as a Captain in the 1st U.S. Cavalry. In action at Camas Meadows, Idaho, on August 20, 1877, he dismounted in the face of heavy fire from pursuing Indians to help bring the body of his stricken trumpeter to safety.
