Myron David Ankeny , 77, of 1135 Wilson Ave., Kittanning died Monday, Nov. 22,1999 at his residence. He was born July 10, 1922 in Indiana to Lee Lester and Esther (Hill) Ankeny. Mr. Ankeny was retired from Pgh. Plate Glass Industries, Ford City. He was a Protestant. A Decorated Veteran of WW2, Mr. Ankeny Served with honor in the U S Army 820th Tank Destroyer Batallion from Jan. 20th 1942 to Feb. 4th 1946. He recieved a soldiers medal for an act of heroism on Dec. 24, 1944 in Belgium when a truck filled with soldiers overturned and plunged into a canal. Pvt. Ankeny jumped into the freezing waters and assisted in the rescue of fifteen entrapped fellow soldiers. Moving the men to a nearby house Pvt. Ankeny aided the medical detachment in treating the victims before seeking medical aid for himself. "The courage displayed by Pvt. Ankeny reflected credit upon himself and the military sevice."

He is survived by his wife Jeanie and one daughter Patricia Lynn Rygelski & husband William of Leechburg; three stepchildren James and William Cousins both of Kittanning and Dixie Ann Miller of Mayport. He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, Howard, Carl, Ronald and Wilbert Ankeny.

Dave was an avid hunter and fisherman. He and his wife Jean loved spending time in Warren County. Daves ashes are scattered in the woods near Kinzua Dam as per his request.
