German Royalty. First-daughter of Manfred of Hohenstaufen and grandson of the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II, better known as Constance II of Sicily. she became consort queen of Aragon (1276) having married King Peter III (1262). Her political role was decisive during the Sicilian Vespers (1282) for the territorial redemption of Sicily dominated by the Anjou. Constance, following the military support provided by the Aragonese, was crowned in the same year, consort Queen of Sicily. She was a woman of a mild character but with a strong-willed temperament. After the death of husband and the premature death of her son Alphonse (1291), she retired to monastic life at the Clarisse convent in Barcelona.
