U.S. Senator. Moving to Long Branch, New Jersey, in 1866, he was builder of railroad equipment and president of the Long Branch City Bank. He was a member, New Jersey State Assembly, (1878-79) and superintendent of the New York & Long Branch Railroad, (1884-87). In 1887, he was elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate, serving until 1893. Not a candidate for reelection, he was Mayor of Long Branch, (1893-98) and engaged in the railroad and banking business, until his death at 75.
