MUNCIE--Mary Ellen Janeway, 89, of Muncie, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2011 at The Golden Living Center in Muncie.
Mary was born September 27, 1922 in Berrien Center, MI. She lived most of her life in Muncie and worked at Marhoefers Meat Packing for 25 years and retired from The Star Press. She had also worked for Durham Manufacturing during the Korean War.
She was a member of Bethel United Baptist Church, the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW post 651, The American Legion #19, Moose Lodge, Maplewood Golf Course, and Crestview Golf Course. She participated on the VFW mixed doubles bowling league, Crestview ladies golf league, and women of the Moose league. She was an avid bowler and golfer, continuing to golf until she was 83. She loved her family and being outdoors. She never met a stranger and was very caring and giving, offering to help anyone in need.
Mary is survived by two daughters, JoEllen Bodyke of Muncie, and Dixie Modglin of Muncie; five grandchildren, Kelli Jo Marcum, Robin R. Campbell, Angela Swift, Mark Modglin, and Amy Reynolds; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Kathy Davis.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Leon Janeway; a daughter, Vickie Sanders; her father, Elveryn Bryant; her mother, Myrtle Edith Moore; her step-father, Charles Wesley Moore; three brothers, Charles Samuel Moore, Meryle Moore, and Elveryn Bryant, Jr.; a sister, Elizabeth Bryant; and a son-in-law, Jim Bodyke.
A funeral service to celebrate Mary's life will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 W. Kilgore Ave., Muncie. Burial will be in Elm Ridge Memorial Park. Friends and family may gather to share and remember one hour prior to service, from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association, with envelopes provided at the funeral home.
