U.S. Congressman. He was attending Phillips Exeter Academy at advent of World War I, when he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a Private. After the war, he graduated from Harvard College, in 1922 and from the law department of Boston University, in 1925. He was admitted to the bar and then commenced the practice of law in Canton, Illinois, joining the law firm of Chiperfield and Chiperfield, which was founded by his father and his uncle, Judge Claude E. Chiperfield. He served as the Canton City Attorney, 1926 and was involved in several city committee functions. In 1939, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-sixth Congress and to the eleven succeeding Congresses, serving until 1963. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he lived in retirement until his death from a heart attack.
