Religious Leader, historian, and nationalist. A native of Chenaux, Quebec, he was a noted Catholic Priest or Abbe from Quebec. He studied for his seminary training and then taught at Valleyfield College in Valleyfield, Quebec, and then at the University of Montreal in Montreal, Quebec. A very controversial person he was denounced by the English press in Canada and in the United States for his blatant anti-Semitic statements and his support of the Nazis in Germany in many 1930s articles in Montreal's "Le Devoir" newspaper. He also helped to inpire the Quiet Revolution in Quebec, and is best remembered for his diary from 1895 to 1911 in which he recorded his thoughts on the self-discriminating of Quebec. His other writings include, "Histoire Du Canada Français" and "Notre Maître Le Passé."
