World War I Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Corporal in the 1/6th Battalion, West Yorkshire Regiment, British Arm. On November 19, 1915, Corporal Meekosha was with a platoon of about twenty who were holding an isolated trench near the Yser, France. During a heavy German bombardment, after most were either killed or wounded, Corporal Meekosha took command and sent a runner for assistance. He with the assistance of three other men continued to fight and dig out buried soldiers, saving the lives of four. For most conspicuous bravery, he invested with his Victoria Cross by King George V at Buckingham Palace on March 4, 1916. He remained in the Army and later achieved the rank of Major.
