William Craig, 82, of Elyria, passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2011, at LifeCare Center of Elyria, following a brief illness. He was born July 3, 1928 in New Castle, Pennsylvania and was an Elyria resident for most of his life.
Bill worked as an optician for 46 years, retiring from the former E.B. Brown Optical in Middleburg Heights. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, enjoyed flying and was a private pilot, and enjoyed traveling in his motor home.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Edna (nee Watson); daughter, Cindy (Jim) Mooney of LaGrange; son, William (Shannon) Craig of Erie, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Cerelena Werhnyak and Bea Callahan, both of New Castle, Pennsylvania; brother, Robert (Linda) Craig of New Castle, Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Danielle Mooney, in 2002.
The family will receive friends Sunday, February 27, 2011, from 1 P.M. until the time of services at 3 P.M., at the Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. Private burial will be at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 10501 Euclid Ave., Cleveland OH 44106.
