Robert Lee Sinclair – Age 82, passed away peacefully on the evening of November 13, 2011 at The Health Center at Richland Place, after an extended illness.
Bob entered this world on September 18, 1929 in Owensboro, KY to the late Chester and Mary Edna Sinclair.
He is predeceased by his devoted wife of 61 years, Louise H. Sinclair; his siblings: Chester M. Sinclair, Louisville, KY; Helen Sinclair, Springfield, IL; Edmund Sinclair, Owensboro, KY; and Mary Louise Duncan, Owensboro, KY.
He was a devoted husband and a nurturing and loving father and grandfather who lived his Christian faith and treasured his family.
He graduated from Owensboro High School and attended Southern Seminary. He graduated from Georgetown College where he was a star tennis player and a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He also took graduate classes at the University of Kentucky.
After his marriage, he was the Pastor for Parrish Avenue Baptist Church in Owensboro, KY and taught Mathematics at Owensboro High School. He was also active in teaching tennis and coaching with the Athletics Dept.
His first career change came when he joined Great Central Insurance Co. He was named a Kentucky Colonel. He moved his family from Owensboro to Louisville, KY, and then to Nashville, TN. The next career change was to join Cherokee Insurance Co. where he served as Vice President of Operations. While there, he began furthering his education in his profession by completing the CPCU and was a past president of the Middle TN Chapter of CPCU as well as National Director of CPCU.
He was also a past president of the Cumberland Chapter of RIMS. Bob then was looking for more challenges and accepted the position of Director of Risk Management for Metropolitan Government under the honorable Mayor Richard Fulton.
He worked closely with the various departments in a number of ways, such as defensive driving for emergency workers. While there, he embarked on another life challenge and graduated from the Nashville School of Law. His next move came when he accepted a position at Vanderbilt University as not only a member of their legal staff, but Director of Risk Management for the University. Being a self-professed workaholic, he also was a consultant in Risk Management for numerous county school systems, local governments and health care facilities. He was honored to his work by being named Risk Manager for Government.
His last career move came when he was named President and CEO of Consolidated Catholic Casualty Risk Group. This afforded him the opportunity for he and his wife to begin traveling to foreign countries and working with other companies in Europe. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic and integrity. After his retirement, he and his wife moved to Sarasota, FL which had become the family's second home, over the years.
He was a very active member of First Baptist Sarasota Church.
They returned to their home in Nashville when health issues arose.
He is survived by his devoted daughter, Cheryl (Walter) Sinclair Jenkins; beloved granddaughters Michelle (Jason) Williams Harper and Lori (John) Williams Hagewood; great-grandchildren, Jonathan Sinclair Hagewood, Kathryn Dale Hagewood, William Gordon Harper, and Abigal Sinclair Harper.
A Life Celebration will be held 11 am Friday at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home with burial to follow at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens.
Honorary pallbearers are Rick Brasher, John Eubank, and the Soujourners Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church, Nashville, TN.
Active pallbearers are Johnny Jackson, Mark Stromatt, Brian Baker, Brian Slater, Danny Johnson, and Harry Richards.
