Born and raised in Flushing, New York. He was the son of the late Walter and Sophie (Segelski) Dembek and the older brother of Edward, Richard and Deloris. He served in U.S. Navy Aviation, Jacksonville, Florida during World War II as a flight line mechanic. Upon leaving the Navy he married Dolores Romes and eventually had five children, Patricia, John, Peter, Timothy and Christopher. The family moved to Port Jefferson, New York in 1962, where he worked for the Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company and Purolator Courier Service until his retirement. He was an active member of the Polish American Hall in Port Jefferson. Walter was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who cherished his family. He passed away suddenly on August 6, 2001.
