Politician. A father of Canadian Confederation, Tilley was born in Gagetown, New Brunswick, in 1818. He served as Minister of Customs from 1867 to 1873, Lieutenant Governor of New Brunswick from 1873 to 1878, and 1885 to 1893, and Minister of Finance from 1878 to 1885, mainly under John A. MacDonald who died in 1891. (bio by: K)
