Charles' car was crowded toward one side of the narrow roadway and struck the stone abutment of the bridge. The impact caused Charles to be thrown clear through the windshield, resulting in a deep cut of his throat that severed the jugular vein, death taking place almost instantly.
Foster suffered a a bruised chest and lip.
The two cars that had been racing never stopped, but sped away.
Charles graduated from Bethel High School in 1927. During his four years in high school, he lived himself into the good graces of pupils and teachers.
He was a member of the Bethel Order of Odd Fellows; a member of the Baptist Sunday School; and was always active in the activities of young people in the community.
Few there are, if any, who could claim more real friends than Charles.
