Religious Figure. Known as Balda of Jouarre, she was the abbess for eleven years of the abbey of Notre Dame of that town (673-684). It was the era of the foundations of convents according to the rules and style of Saint Colomban and the authority of Balda, aunt of the founder Tedichilde, concerned only the female sector of the religious institution which at the time, under the bishop's jurisdiction of Aachen, became a pilgrimage destination. At her death she was buried in a wooden sarcophagus which was found and opened in 1884. She is venerated as Saint "coram populi" as there is no news about a canonization process.
