Actor. He was a Swedish actor, comedian, and entertainer of the early 20th century. Starting his career as a 16-year-old juvenile in Folkets Hus theater in Malmö, he had a role in his first silent film at the age of 21. In 1932 he got a contract with the newly formed Europa Film and achieved a national breakthrough with "The Southsiders." In 1947, he made a 100-day tour in America, entertaining thousands of Swedish immigrants. He acted in 51 films, and sang in almost every one of them. "Kalle Inn" in 1939, "Söderkåkar" in 1932 and "Livet på landet" in 1943 are three of his most popular films. He also recorded 226 songs from 1927 to 1954, of which one has become a long-time favorite, "Jag har bott vid en landsväg." Besides Sweden, he was very popular in Denmark. His last role was in 1957 in the film "When the Mills are Running." A stout built man, he continued to work even with declining health until his death.
