Joanne Darby Booth was born on August 16, 1915, in Plattsburgh Barracks, New York. Daughter of the late Colonel and Mrs. Taylor Edwin Darby.
She was a graduate of Catherine Gibbs School, New York. She received her Bachelors and Masters degrees from Florida State University in Library Science. She worked as a research librarian at Stozier Library on the FSU campus, and in that capacity, spent six months as the Librarian for the London Exchange Program.
She was active in numerous political, neighborhood planning and environment causes. She actively supported the arts and one of her many hobbies was genealogy. She was a member of the Ladies Golf Association, winning the ladies golf tournament with a hole-in-one after the age of 80.
