She was the first wife of Judge John G. Jackson. Her husband was a U.S. Congressman and later became a Federal Judge. They were married in October of 1800, probably at Montpelier (home of President James Madison). She was a sister to First Lady Dorothy "Dolly" Madison, the wife of President James Madison. She died of TB at the age of 27 years, 2 months. Her husband's entry on FindaGrave.com is under "Old" Jackson Cemetery, Harrison County, W.Va. West Virginia Highway Historical Marker number MC-103's inscription reads: "In this cemetery lie buried members of the Stonewall Jackson family: his father Jonathan, a sister Elizabeth, his great grandparents John Jackson and wife Elizabeth Cummings. Buried here also are Mrs. Mary Payne Jackson and Mrs. Mary Coles Payne, sister and mother of Dorothy (Dolly) Madison, wife of President James Madison. Some Civil War soldiers lie buried in this place; called Jackson Park." Historic Jackson Cemetery is located on WV 20 (East Pike Street), near junction with US 50, Clarksburg.
