Businessman. His real name was Jacques Armand Schuel and he was one of the great sport promoters of all-time. Curley was the master of publicity and a major contributor to the pages of Ring Magazine. Curley was so famous that the magazine published his memoirs over 24 issues. During a legendary career that spanned four decades, he managed boxers, opera stars (Caruso), a tennis player (Tilden), swimmers, actors, circuses, and even the Vatican Choir, but it was pro wrestling's history that can't be written without his name. In 1910 he promoted the Match of the Century, Gotch vs Hackenschmidt, which drew the largest gate in history.
