Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Sergeant in the Union Army in Company F, 5th Vermont Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on April 2, 1865 at Petersburg, Virginia. His citation reads "Capture of flag of 23d Tennessee Infantry (C.S.A.)and several of the enemy."
