Richard Brinsley Sheridan (1809-1888), Member of Parliament for Shaftesbury, 1845-1852; grandson of playwright; son of Caroline Henrietta Sheridan; brother of Caroline Norton; Bridgwater Election 1837.

This is Richard Brinsley Sheridan of Frampton Court. Richard Brinsley Sheridan was the eldest son of Thomas Sheridan, colonial treasurer in the Cape of Good Hope and the novelist Caroline Henrietta Callander of Craigforth, and grandson of his namesake the playwright Richard Brinsley Sheridan. After his father died in 1817, his mother travelled to live in London with her seven children.

He served as High Sheriff of Dorset in 1838. He was Member of Parliament (MP) for Shaftesbury from 1845 to 1852, and for Dorchester from 1852 until he retired in 1868, and also Deputy Lieutenant for Dorset. He was a Liberal in favour of extending the right to vote. He married Marcia Maria Grant on 18 May 1835, and they had three daughters and six sons, including Thomas Algernon Brinsley Sheridan, another Deputy Lieutenant of Dorset.

Dorset, and has issue,

LINEAGE —This is a very ancient Celtic family of the co. of Cavan, and can be traced back to a remote period of Irish history. Its early alliances were with the O'Rourkes, O'Neills, O'Donnells, O'Farrells, O'Connors, O'Reillys, &c. Two of its members were distinguished for their abilities and learning, in the reign of Charles II, viz., Thomas Sheridan, and Charles, his brother, Bishop of Kildare.

An organ was placed in the Church 30 January last the gift of R. B. Sheridan and Marcia Maria Sheridan.

The stained glass windon in the north aisle of the parish church representing the visit of the three Maries to the tomb of our savior after the resurrection was presented by Helen Lady Dufferin in memory of her mother C. H. Sheridan who is buried in the graveyard.

The same day the five stained glass windows in the chancel of the parish Church were dedicated to the church by R. B. Sheridan Esq and Marcia Maria Sheridan. .. The four smaller windows to the memory of Francis Cynric Sheridan whom died in 1843 aged 30. Charles Kinnaird Sheridan who died in 1847 aged 30.

The parish school has been rebuilt by R. B. Sheridan, Esq., and Maria Marcia Sheridan and was inaugurated Ath April 1863.
