Vermont Business Executive. He graduated from St. Lawrence University, served as a Lieutenant in the US Navy during World War II, and received the Silver Star for heroism while assigned to the Pacific Theater as Torpedo Data Computer Operator on the submarine USS Ray. He remained in the Navy Reserve, was recalled to active duty during the Korean War, and retired with the rank of Captain. Stafford was a corporate manager and executive, and served as Executive Vice President of the Vermont Marble Company and General Manager of the White Pigment Corporation, a Vermont Marble subsidiary. Active in politics as a Republican, in the late 1960s he was a member of the Vermont House of Representatives. (Thank you Bill McKern)
