He remained in the Navy Reserve, was recalled to active duty during the Korean War, and retired with the rank of Captain. Stafford was a corporate manager and executive, and served as Executive Vice President of the Vermont Marble Company and General Manager of the White Pigment Corporation, a Vermont Marble subsidiary.
