Confederate Veteran Passes to Rest at the Age of Seventy-Three.
MT. STERLING, Ky., Nov. 5-Capt. Fred C. Riddell died at his home in this city yesterday after a brief illness. He was 73 years old and a widely known contractor, Captain Riddell was a native of Bourbon county living there many years.
He joined the Confederate army when quite young, serving on year in Col. E.F. Clay's company and was honorably discharged after one year. He then joined the command of Gen. John Morgan and was elected Captain of Company D Eighth Kentucky Calvary, serving until captured by the Federal forces and placed in confinement at Johnson's Island, from which place he was released when the war closed.
He then returned to North Middletown and engaged in carpenter work, moving here about fifteen years ago and becoming one of the leading contractors of this city. Mr. Riddell is survived by his wife, but no children. The body will be taken to North Middletown for burial Thursday, and will be interred in the cemetery there under control of the United Confederate Veterans.
