A Lincoln County native, he was the son of the late Baxter and Addie Story Bevels. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army and a member of the Harms Methodist Church. Mr. Bevels retired from Redstone Arsenal in 1968.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Bradford Bevels of Fayetteville; four daughters: Ann Taylor of Eagleville, Vickie Eatherly of Nashville, Kay Porter and Cynthia King, both of Fayetteville; three sisters, Gladys Thornton, Frances Nichols and Betty Strope, all of Fayetteville; and six grandchildren.
