Rev. Arthur Bell Nicholls

Known for being the husband of author Charlotte Brontë. Arthur traveled to Haworth, where he became curate to Charlotte's father, Patrick. December 13th, 1852, he proposed to Charlotte. Patrick was furious and refused the engagement, but in February 1854 he gave his permission. They married a few months later in Haworth. Charlotte passed away in 1855 while pregnant with their only child. Arthur remained in Haworth till Patrick's death in 1861. He then returned to Ireland where he married his cousin Mary Bell 1864. Arthur passed away in 1906 at the age of 88.
