Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Sergeant in the Union Army in Company I, 52d Ohio Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on May 11, 1864 at Buzzard's Roost, Georgia. His citation reads "Risked his life in saving a wounded comrade."
