Julian E. Smith, 93, formerly of 2011 W. Jackson St., but more recently a resident of Westminster Village, died there Wednesday afternoon following an extended illness. He was born in Jay County, spent his early years in that area, and came to Muncie when he was a young man.

Mr. Smith was employed at Ball Corporation for many years prior to his retirement. He was a member of College Avenue United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Fern Bond Smith; his daughter, Mrs. James (Betty) Grantham, Fort Wayne; his son, Robert L. Smith, Muncie; two step-daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Madonna) Beall and Mrs. Robert L. (Rosemary) Smith, both of Muncie; four grandchildren, James R. Grantham, Crown Point, Steven Grantham, Mrs. Michael (Betty) Fink, and Mrs. Michael (Brenda) Heath, all of Muncie; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Meeks Mortuary with Rev. Steven Holdzkom, assistant pastor of College Avenue United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today and before services Saturday.
