He was born May 12, 1909 in Austin, Texas to Joe H. Southernwood, Sr. and "Lottie" Andrews Southernwood. He lived in Austin, Texas until 1913. He graduated from Elgin High School in Elgin, Texas in 1927. He moved to La Grange, Texas in 1933 and married in 1934 in Dubina, Texas. He moved his family to Corpus Christi in 1943.
He was employed by Aransas Compress Co. now Corpus Christi Public Compress. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Adamcik Southernwood in 1977.
He is survived by: two daughters and a son-in-law, Martha Jo Southernwood, Mary Sue and Bob Glorfield, all of Corpus Christi; one son and a daughter-in-law, Larry and Mary Ann Southernwood of Houston; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A Rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Friday, February 1, 1991 at Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 1p.m. Saturday, February 2, 11991 at Christ the King Catholic Church with Rev. Bernard Miapah as celebrant. Burial will follow in Seaside Memorial Park.
