WESTFIELD - Rev. Paul L. Denise, 94, of South Portage Street, formerly of Omaha, Neb., died Saturday (Feb. 14, 2004) in Westfield Memorial Hospital.
He was born Feb. 22, 1909, in New Kensington, Pa., the son of Larimore and Bernice Evans Denise.

He was a graduate of Omaha schools, and attended Omaha Seminary, which was founded by his father, where he received his divinity degree. He had been pastor of several Presbyterian churches both here and abroad, starting with Bellvue, Neb., Waimea Foreign Church of Kauai, Hawaii, Westfield, and retired from Lewiston, N.Y. Following retirement, he served in interim positions with churches in Tokyo, Japan, Linue Kauai, Hawaii, Ripley and Westfield.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Society of Westfield, the Summit Lodge 219 F&AM of Westfield, and a former Rotarian, and very active in civic affairs wherever he resided. While in Lewiston, he was a member of the board of directors of St. Mary's Hospital in Niagara Falls, N.Y.

He enjoyed spending time at his Klondike Road ''getaway'' in Ripley which later became his retirement residence. He enjoyed golf, wood working, cabinet making, and was a self-taught musician who played the banjo, ukulele, and the piano. He enjoyed singing and listening to music.

He is survived by two daughters: Janice D. Wilson of Westfield, and Elizabeth Ann ''Betty'' Barnum of Louisville, Ky.; six grandchildren: Timothy Barnum of Louisville, Ky., Todd Barnum of Westlake Village, Calif, Craig Barnum Jr. of Columbus, Ohio, Kathleen Monroe and David Wilson, both of Westfield, Mark Wilson of Rochester, and Leslie McTavish of Dunkirk; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Wakefield Denise, who died Feb. 24, 1999; two sisters: Dorothy Hagerman and Marguerite Betts Broking; and his stepmother, who raised him, Alma Dodds Denise.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the First Presbyterian Church and Society of Westfield, South Portage Street, Westfield. The Rev. Arthur D. Webster of First Presbyterian Church and Society of Westfield, will officiate. A private interment will be held in Union Cemetery in the summer.
