Actor, Director and Screenwriter. Concidered one of Sweden´s greatest filmmakers of all time. He directed some 50 films, and acted in almost as many. He also wrote many scripts as well as lyrics to several apprechiated revues. As son of legendary actor Gösta Ekman Sr. he played against his father in "Intermezzo" (1936), where actress Ingrid Bergman starred as well. He also acted in Ingmar Bergman´s "Gycklarnas Afton" (1953). 1950 he directed the film "Flicka och hyacinter", which he himself considered his best work. He was born in Stockholm, but died in Marbella, Spain, where he lived since many years. He is the father of famous Swedish actors Gösta Jr., Stefan and Krister Ekman and the director Mikael Ekman.
