Among the heroes of the Revolution was Samuel Baldwin, son of a Boston clergyman. He was distinguished as well for his piety and benevolence as for gallantry in the army. He died at Windsor, Mass., at an advanced age. Jonas C. Baldwin, son of Samuel, was born in Windsor, June 3, 1768.

Here repose, The last remains, of Jonas C. Baldwin and Eliza Warner, his wife. Emigrants from Massachusetts, They early settled in this County, and in 1808. founded the Village which bears their Name, the site of which was selected by Mrs. Baldwin in 1796. The trials and hardships Incident to the settlement of a new Country Brought them to a premature grave. While living they sustained Creditably all the various relations of Life, and died universally lamented. Fearless enterprise bold Design, unyielding perseverance and unbounded Benevolence were the most conspicuous Among their many virtues. To perpetuate their Names and memory this monument is Erected by the hand of filial affection.
