A Mass of Christian Burial for John Beno, Sr., 94, Stephenson, was conducted Saturday, Sept. 1 at Church of the Precious Blood. Rev. Ray Hoefgen officiated with burial in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Banat. Anderson Diehm Funeral Home served the family.
He died Thursday, Aug. 30 at Roubal Care and Rehab where he had resided for the past six years.
Born Oct. 1, 1906 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Christ (Katherine Walsh) Beno in Klek, Hungary, he married the former Veronica Mathias on Aug. 15, 1928. She preceded in him death on Sept. 22, 1980. He later married Eva Hummel in 1982, and she preceded him in death in 1998. He immigrated to the United States from Hungary, landing in Boston on the ship Frankfurt on April 28, 1911, when he was five years old. He traveled to the Banat area where he lived all his life. He was a farmer and gardener. For a few years he worked for the Menominee Road Commission, then joined the International Union of Operating Engineering until his retirement. As a young man, he was a cook at the Hermansville Lumber camps, and attended a one room schoolhouse in Gardner, Mich.
Survivors include two sons, Roy (Bonnie) of Stephenson, John Jr. of Engelwood, Fla.; four daughters, Rose DeLaurelle of Daggett, Louise Echoes of Texas, Mrs. John (Barb) Hollo and Sandra Beno of Marinette; 24 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mary Albitz, Marie Lieska and Anna Delfosse, all of Marinette, and Helen Francis of Niagara.
He was preceded in death by three sons, Christ, Leonard and Frank; one daughter, Mary; two grandsons; two sisters; and two brothers.
