Loena Fern (Lambert) Mathews, widow of Albert E. Mathews, died January 27, 2012. Born in Missouri to Eldon and Cleo Lambert. She was raised in Nelson, Neb., graduating from high school in 1951. She came to Lincoln to work at the University of Nebraska and attended classes to further her education. She met Albert, who was a student in the Civil Engineering College. They married in 1953. After being a stay-at-home mother raising their son Michael, she went to work for First National Bank. She retired twenty years later as a Trust Officer with First Tier Bank. A long-time member of Vine Congregational United Church of Christ, she enjoyed her family and friends. Loena filled her life with all things enjoyable and shared 49 years with her husband Al, including traveling, special family vacations, dancing, bridge playing and gardening.
She is survived by her son, Michael (Peg) Mathews of Appleton, Wis.; special friend, Richard "Dick" Hitz of Lincoln; sister, Bonnie (Glen) Drohman of Lincoln; nieces, nephews, cousins, and her long-time devoted friend, Pat Burling. Loena was preceded in death by her mother, Cleo; husband, Albert; sister, Shirley; brother, Eldon Jr. and father, Eldon Sr.
