Scottish Monarch. The son of King Malcolm III Canmore and Saint Margaret of Scotland, he succeeded his brother King Edgar to the Scottish throne in 1107. He was a strong ruler, a supporter of the church, and founded the Abbey on Inchcolm Island and a priory at Scone. He married Sybilla of Normandy, an illegitimate daughter of King Henry I of England. He died at Stirling at the age of 47. Having had no children, he was succeeded by his brother King David I.
