Inventor. He was a prominent lawyer in Rochester, New York who was also very interested in the effects of solar heat. His experiments in this field led to his inventing the first base-burning coal powered stove. He patented several other heating devices, including an innovative steam boiler, and won several awards including the highest honours at the 1846 New York State Fair.
