He joined his father's company Rittenhouse and Embree: as a salesman in 1922. He rose through the ranks in the company becoming president in 1933 after the death of his father. He was president and director of North Western Lumber Co. Secretary - treasurer and director of 59th Street Lumber Co., Howes Lumber Co., Andrews Millwork & Lumber Co; director Morgan Park Lumber Co., District National Bank of Chicago, Schulze and Burch Biscuit Co. Secretary and director Reserve Supply Co-op Corp of Chicago. Past president of the Lumber Trade Association and of the Employers Association of Chicago.
