RETIRED ENGINEER IN SAWMILLS HERE DIES EARLY TODAY

Robert Welk, 414 East Sixth Street, a retired fireman and engineer in local saw mills, died at 3:30 this morning at the Lincoln hospital. Death was due to the complications of advanced age. He had been in ill health for the past five years and in serious condition for three months.

He was born in Germany on December 5, 1872, and was 74 years of age. At the age of 21, he came to America, and in 1896 arrived in Merrill. His wife, the former Ida Ceaglske, whom he married in this city on September 8, 1896, the year he arrived in this city, survives, as do two daughters and three sons. The daughters are Mrs. Olaf (Minnie) Skare of Wausau; Ruth Welk of Merrill; the sons are William, Vernon and Roger of this city. Herman Zellmer, who was reared to manhood by Mr. and Mrs. Welk, is another survivor.

Four daughters, Ida, Adeline, Mathilda and Mrs. Milton (Vivian) Ralph, preceded their father in death. Two brothers and two sisters, residing in Germany, and eleven grandchildren are other survivors of Mr. Welk.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at two o'clock from the Taylor funeral home where the body will lie in state from 3:30 Friday afternoon until the hour of final services.
